The Other Side

This is the Anker NEBULA Cosmos Laser 4K Projector, one of the best compact projectors out there, and an item that would not disappoint you in any way. Below I share my review of this projector in detail. I already spent a week testing it and there is a lot to unpack.

Design:

The word 'compact' or 'portable' can be misleading for some. This projector's weight is 4.84kg. For many people this might seem a lot, but considering the performance and the form factor, I would say it is worth the hassle. First, this comes with a dedicated handle, one that allows you to carry it around just like an icebox. Second, it comes with dedicated speakers so you don't need to take your own. Therefore, I still believe it is quite portable despite the weight.

The form factor is interesting. It looks pretty premium in terms of colours, visual appearance, and design. I like the forward facing area with the projector lamp and sensors, an d I also like the sides with the well-designed speaker holes.

Functionalities:

This projector is not just robust in terms of performance, but equally very smart. It projects at 4K up to 60hz, it comes with Android TV built in, so you don't need to plug any other device, and it has amazing keystone and autofocus functionality which I find unbelievably useful. The autofocus button is pretty reachable and can be found on the Nebula Connect app as well. That means that if you move the projector around you can easily refocus the screen by pressing the button.

The projector projects from any angle. You don't want to place it in the middle facing the wall? Fine! The projected image can be easily adjusted from looking sideways to looking centre, all while the projector is on the side. This technology integration is simply amazing, and one that many people would appreciate.

Android TV is very easy and straightforward to set up. It took me minutes to log into my Google account and I was able to stream content shortly after. Of course you get a Play Store where you can download your apps. Netflix comes by default but Now TV isn't available for some reason.

Picture Quality:

The 4K promise is not an exaggeration. This projector projects an image as wide as 150 inches. This is insanely huge, and you won't understand how big that is until you try it. I was projecting at 90 inches and I already run out of wall area so I couldn't use the full 150 inches I can reach.

Image quality is almost like a flagship TV. The only difference is that black are more intense on a TV, and a bit pale on the projector. This is negligible though as the overall picture quality is breathtakingly stunning. If you don't compare this to a TV simultaneously, then you will be fully satisfied with the image quality.

2400 lumens laser projection is very, and I mean very, high in brightness. I tried this in dark, ambient and light conditions, and in all situations the brightness was satisfactory. Obviously the darker a room is the better but the same would apply to a TV as well.

The colours are quite accurate. The scope of image customisation is also appealing, and you can create a picture profile that suits you most.

Sound:

Dedicated speakers on a projector as capable as this one is an added bonus. You would expect the speakers to disappoint but they don't! I was really impressed, to the point where I didn't even think to connect my sound system. The speakers are Dolby Digital Plus compliant and in total account for 30W (2 of 10W speakers and 2 of the 5W speakers). Surround sound is decent, regardless of where you place the projector.

Ports:
This projector packs an auxiliary, an HDMI port, and a USB A port. I find this a bit limited in my opinion and it could have been better if there was an optical entry, a USB C, and HDMI 2.1 support.

Durability:
With 25000 hours lamp promise, this projector, in theory, would last for 41 years if you watch a movie every day. Quite stunning!

Storage:
I am really struggling with the storage of this projector. For a very top-range premium item like this I expected the carry case to be provided along with it. However, there was no case or bag.

What else you may need?
In addition to the carry bag, you may also need to get a tripod where you can place this projector and move it comfortably. Try to find a tripod that carries up to 6 kilograms for ease of mind.

I also attached a video and some images of the projector in use.

I got this for my sister and she loves it. The setting is not as straight forward and the sound in some apps in android tv doesn't work at all. She uses her Apple TV device to watch her movies.

We bought this to be used for office meetings. The Autofocus, AirPlay and ChromeCast features were what stood out to us. Unfortunately none of these features that are important to us work well.First, the AutoFocus; when the projector turns on or is moved it automatically recalibrates the focus. This would be great if it actually worked properly. The resulting focus calibration is far from perfect -maybe it would be good for movies and tv shows but we use this projectors for meetings where there is lots of text based content. The projector is capable of displaying this text based content properly, but we always have to manually calibrate the projector focus ourself to get there. If the projector had a physical control to adjust focus this wouldn't be a big deal. But there is no physical control for this and the focus control is buried in the software interface; it takes a long time to find the focus settings and the actual manual focus control is very unintuitive. So that sucks, we start every meeting off having to manually calibrate the focus. I wouldn't be happy with the AutoFocus accuracy for watching movies either. For a projector that has a handle that encourages it to be moved around the AutoFocus should be perfect or there should be a easy to access physical control to adjust the focus. If you are purchasing this projector for the advertised 'AirPlay' functionality, don't. The projector doesn't natively support AirPlay, instead Anker provides you with a free download from the Google Play store for an app that can handle the AirPlay connection. But from the moment we downloaded this Anker-provided app the Google interface in the projector continued to warn us that it may be a counterfeit app, and whenever we used the app it kept pushing us to purchase the paid version of the app. The free app rarely works for us anymore and we have just stopped trying to use AirPlay. So we have a physical HDMI cord plugged into this multi-thousand dollar projector that we pass between computers at our meetings. We also have to spend a couple minuted at the start of every meeting calibrating the focus using the settings buried in the software interface. Some things I like:- Form factor of the projector feels solid, easy to move around.- Brightness is quite good- After manually adjusting the focus (each time) the picture is crisp and clear.Wish we could return this projector.

Centre multimedia personnel, il faut seulement être prudent de ne pas regarder le projecteur car les rayons Laser sont très puissant.
